about

C:He:Mi:S:Tr:Y

File under Funk, Fusion, Metal, Prog.

This album continues my long standing fascination for everything I should have learned in school.
If Half Life was inspired by the Physics of things, then this obviously is inspired by thoughts of Organic Chemistry fused with images & words.
I’d been reading about the chemical constitution of Stars, and the formation of Heavy Metals.
This clicked into life a thought about fusing the raucous elements of Metal music with my usual taste for ‘progressive’ fusion, which in turn led me to think of how little ‘widdly’ guitar I play these days.
The pleasure of ‘Widdle’ is a combination of technique and articulation, which seems to be governed by a whole set of rules in keeping with scientific study...
i.e. long nights of revision.
For melody, I referred back to my Prog stalwarts as well as a healthy dollop of late ‘80’s guitar hero worship, and the end result is an unashamed mix of all the above... tapping, shredding, legato techniques I had long forgone...
(On a technical note, Archetype Abasi by Neural DSP got a proper workout on this
Album…)
As always my best friend and musical mentor Ian Foster will see the references as stark reminders of our shared history...
I hope he enjoys....
To everyone else, I release this alongside another album full of Soul tunes.
There is no dichotomy. I will always love music in its myriad forms.
One more album then, drawn from the labyrinth that is my musical prison, a place I have been trapped for most of my life, and never more so than during this Covid lockdown, but who’s wall’s I hope never to be less than grateful for...
